Gordon Food Service to Acquire Red Diamond Foodservice

Gordon Food Service has agreed to acquire Red Diamond Foodservice from Red Diamond Inc. Terms for the deal were not disclosed.

Following closure of the deal, GFS intends to begin servicing Red Diamond Foodservice’s broadline customers from its distribution center in Douglasville, Ga.

“Gordon Food Service has become North America's largest privately held foodservice distributor by offering a comprehensive array of products and services backed by state-of-the-art operations and outstanding people,” Rich Wolowski, CEO of GFS, said in a statement. “These are exciting times for us as we expand our business in the Southeast region. We expect a seamless transition as both family-held companies have a similar approach to operations and serving our customers.”

Red Diamond Inc. will continue to own and operate its Red Diamond Coffee and Tea business.

“For a number of years, as Red Diamond has grown its business, we have found our company increasingly competing in foodservice with the very distributors to whom we sell our coffee and tea products,” Bill Bowron, president and CEO of Red Diamond Inc., said. “The sale of the foodservice distribution allows us to concentrate on the continuing expansion of Red Diamond’s coffee and tea business across North America and the Caribbean. Gordon Food Service is strategically the best possible fit for our foodservice customers and employees.”
